Deer Hunters
These metallic African sculptures which are usually figures and masks served a function in the traditional tribal society, to preserve and convey the beliefs and value of these societies that had no written documents. The figures usually depicted ancestors or spirits and some object were believed to have great powers. The traditional work of art has been made in the same basic style for generations, even centuries. The style of each piece is determined by its unique identity and symbolic, spiritual significance in the life of the tribes which has been living in this magical land of Asante and Yoruba.
